During certain events, Scouts are given a little more freedom to navigate themselves (with leaders oversight). Being able to locate these group brings with it
When we send Scouts off on a hike away from the headquarters it's important that we know where they are. Even when they are walking with leaders it's useful to know where they are!Ben, GSL
The Traccar app lets us do that by installing a small app on each Scout and Leader's phone. The Scout/Leader carrier their smart device with them during the event and the app uploads their location to a secure server, every three minutes during the event.
The apps only upload a tiny amount of information to the server over your mobile phone's data connection.
After a whole week of using the app non-stop with it uploading my location to the server every 300 seconds the app had only used 639 KB of data, thats only 0.6 MBBen, GSL
These locations can then be viewed by authorised leaders during the event, and in an emergency can be shared with the emergency services.
The apps are only used during events away from the usual meeting place where our risk assessment indicates that there is an increased risk.
After the event, the app is either turned off or uninstalled from the phones.
